Ralph Wiggum: A Tribute

He's my favourite character in The Simpsons and a certain Matt Groening's one too because his non sequiturs are brilliant in my pseudo-professional opinions. He's had many classic quotes and even a book based on him and his world. Very few characters in fictional history can get away with saying, "Oh boy! Sleep! That's where I'm a Viking!" So if you are looking for a Ralph fix, hopefully the video below will satisfy you until season 19 (!) starts in September.

My first perfectly cromulent movie review

I've finally seen The Simpson Movie and I thought it was... nice. Apparently, it's based on a TV show and embiggened to the cinema screen plus you have to pay to get in. So, to sum up, I give it 4 thumbs up out of a possible 5 star... percent. To be honest I really liked it and I cannot wait for the DVD. It's perfect material for DVD, especially since there was two movies worth of material cut from the film including Kelsey Gramer, Minnie Driver, Erin Brockivich, Isla Fisher and probably all the jokes that were missing from the film.

Anywho, I found a list of Simpsons lists so enjoy:
-Top 10 Simpsons endings of all time (BestWeekEver)
-Celebrity cameos on The Simpsons quiz game (Radar)
-The weirdest stuff Homer Simpson has ever eaten (Stuff)
-Greatest guest voices on The Simpsons (Bullz-Eye)
-Sexiest ladies on The Simpsons (Maxim, obviously)
-Top 10 vechicles on The Simpsons (The Mags Reports)
-Top 10 religious episodes of The Simpsons (Beliefnet - a religious site)
-Top 12 Simpsons created words (Cracked or a better list)
-The best Simpsons band cameos ever (Blender)
-The most obscure Simpsons characters (Maxim)
-10 of my personal favourite Simpsons moments (Monscooch)

Edit: I've just seen this site. Destination Creation is a (mostly crappy) graphic design company which, in it's own words, uses "award winning production tools, skills, knowledge and marketing experience to provide original and effective business development facilitation, visual marketing and multimedia advertising campaigns for a variety of clients through our full service Destination Creation studio." In other words, they make fancy photoshop pictures.

They photoshopped the entire Simpsons family as real people (but still ends up looking like an alien family) here. I'm most impressed with the pictures of Snowball II (as seen above), Santas Little Helper, and Blinky (scroll down here). That's it for now. Off-topic: Kevin Smith rocks.

How Kids TV Today Sucks (Part 1)

Why is it that there's nothing on TV suitable for the under 12 kids these days that's anywhere near as cool as what I had growing up. I grew up watching... (wait, deep breath)... Animaniacs, Batman: The Animated Series, Tiny Toons Adventures, Round The Twist, Fragglerock, Sesame Street, Mighty Max, Captain Planet, ReBoot, Spider-Man, Earthworm Jim, X-Men, Eerie Indiana, Goosebumps, Family Ties, Early Edition, Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Lois And Clark, Doug, and maybe even Biker Mice From Mars. What's there now? The flipping Wiggles? The only good thing they've ever done is unofficially hook up with Young Joc. And in style.

To remind people how great TV used to be, I'll profile some of my favourite early 90's TV shows and provide some highlight clips with downloadable theme tunes and whatnot. To start off, I'll start off with something obsure I loved that everyone else needs to learn about:

Bruce Timm, best known as a major principal of the DC animated universe (BATMAN!), originally intended it to be a straightforward superhero action-adventure cartoon with comic overtones, but executive producer Steven Spielberg asked series producer/writer Tom Ruegger and the Animaniacs team to turn Freakazoid! into a flat-out comedy.

Freakazoid! made frequent use of stock footage which was often gratuitous and nonsensical, including the peaceful scene of a field of flowers ("Relax-O-Vision"), numerous people screaming ("Scream-O-Vision"), traditionally dressed Bavarians dancing and slapping each other, a man being shot in the belly with a cannonball and a man wrestling a bear. And any show that could pull that off for two seasons before being cancelled is okay in my book.

Here are some samples of the show's brilliance:
-Quantum Leap parody
-Now for a special report
-Watch the lip sync
Musical Interlude
-Freakazoid Intro
-The most random 2 minutes of animation ever
-Download the theme song.

The show doesn't have a DVD release lined up for the future yet. Apparently, it's under evaluation by Warners. Click here to visit the TVlinks section. It's highly illegal so we'll keep it between me and you. It's only as bad as what happens on youtube everyday so here's a good profile for more bitesized Freakazoid clips.

A picture of me in Simpsons form

I've always failed miserably at drawing myself in the Simpson style. Now I don't have to bother with the new Simpsons character creator. To celebrate the worldwide premier next week of The Simpsons Movie in Springfield Vermont, I've compiled some of my favourite Simpsons moments that spring to mind.

Here's a small selection of the classic moments from it's 400+ episodes:

-Moe's Self Defense Class
-Mr Burns' Sitcom
-Stupidest Name I've Ever Heard
-Crazy Cat Lady
-Homer The Daredevil
-Cyprus Hill
-Homer Thompson
-Homer Crashes Moe's Car
-Talking Softball
-Stan Lee

You may notice that most if not all of those clips come from the first nine seasons of The Simpsons. I think it peaked at around season 6, 7 and 8 for me. The "Who Shot Mr Burns?" era as I like to think of think. It gradually became weaker, boring and worse from there and I haven't really watched much of the 14th to 17th season because of it. The rare ones I did see managed to get very few laughs but the latest episodes from season 18 have improved a small bit.

Here's the new movie trailer. If it doesn't restore my faith in the new Simpsons, then I'll have to resort to reliving the golden age through the magic of DVD's over and over again.

Quick! Let's Procrastinate Before It's Too Late!

Here's a few cool videos I found today:

This baby is incredibly cute but incredibly stupid. Reminds me very much of this moment in the Simpsons.

Here's a video of 3 guys staging a break-in into a house while 5 police officers chat outside. Apparently, they aren't happy. It's not as blatantly ignorant for a law enforcer as this ignoramus.

Another great video is this ad created by the Santo Buenos Aires agency for Coca Cola. It's original and weird like most other original things.

Films To Look Foward To

Knocked Up

This comes from the director (and a good selection of the cast) of 40-Year Old Virgin, Judd Apatow. He also made Freaks And Geeks.

------------

The Simpsons Movie

I can't wait for this. This will make or break the Simpsons for me. If it's anything as good as the trailer, I'll need new pants.
------------

DIE HARD 4.0

I have a feeling this trailer might include every good scene expected film in the same way as Borat did (Car versus Helicopter, Ode To Joy, Yippee Kay Yeay etc). It looks like it'll be a tribute to the Trilogy with it's in jokes and self references but with a modern twist in this computer based world hence the Four Point Oh.

------------

Evan Almighty

Steve Carrell deserves to be in more movies quickly before people notice he plays the same characters over and over.

------------

Transformers: Robots In Disguise

Optimus Prime has got some moves! I already can't wait for the sequel... Transformers: Robots In Drag. Bound to be great.
